Galvanized (DX51D+Z) vs. Painted Steel Container Frames: Corrosion Life, Cost Difference & Climate Selection

Compare continuous pre-galvanized steel frames (FR-G / GR-G, starting at $799 USD) against architectural shop-painted frames (FR-P / GR-P, starting at $999 USD) for coastal, desert, and urban projects.

Galvanized (DX51D+Z) vs. Painted Steel Container Frames: Corrosion Life, Cost Difference & Climate Selection

1. Why Galvanized Chassis Are Lower-Priced AND Zero-Maintenance at Weld-Free Nodes

New buyers often assume galvanized frames cost more than painted frames — in modern cold-formed roll-forming, the opposite is true for two clear industrial reasons:

  • FR-G & GR-G Pre-Galvanized Series (DX51D+Z Structural Coil): Formed directly from mill-galvanized steel coils and joined with Grade 8.8 M12 bolts. Because there is zero welding during assembly, the zinc layer is never burned off at corners — eliminating primer/topcoat booth labor and booth curing time.
  • FR-P & GR-P Industrial Painted Series: Undergoes surface degreasing, anti-corrosive shop primer, oven/air curing, architectural RAL topcoat (anthracite/white/corporate colors), and protective export stretch-film wrapping on every beam to prevent transit scratches.
  • Identical Structural Steel Mass: At any given dimension, FR-G and FR-P share the exact same steel weight (e.g., 341 kg on 3×7 m Flat Roof; 392 kg on 3×7 m Gable A-Roof) and load capacity.

2. Technical & Price Comparison: Galvanized vs. Painted (3×7 m & 2.4×6 m Benchmarks)

Criterion Galvanized Series (FR-G / GR-G) Industrial Painted Series (FR-P / GR-P)
Surface Protection Continuous metallic zinc coating (cathodic sacrificial protection) Anti-corrosive primer + industrial RAL topcoat + export film wrap
2.40 × 6.00 m Flat Roof Price $999 USD (FR-G · 279 kg · MOQ 20) $1,299 USD (FR-P · 279 kg · MOQ 20)
3.00 × 7.00 m Flat Roof Price $1,199 USD (FR-G · 341 kg · MOQ 10) $1,499 USD (FR-P · 341 kg · MOQ 20)
3.00 × 7.00 m Gable A-Roof Price $1,699 USD (GR-G · 392 kg · MOQ 10) $1,999 USD (GR-P · 392 kg · MOQ 20)
Sea Freight & Coastal Humidity Superior (no rust creep in 40' HC ocean transit or coastal air) Good for inland/urban sites; requires touch-up if scratched on site
Corporate Color Aesthetics Industrial metallic silver finish (can be field-painted with wash primer) Ready architectural RAL finish matching colored window/panel trim

3. Climate & Geography Recommendation Matrix

Specify Galvanized (FR-G / GR-G) for sea-freight exports (North/West Africa, Gulf ports), coastal Black Sea/Mediterranean camps, high-humidity sanitary units, and heavy-duty rental fleets. Specify Painted (FR-P / GR-P) when corporate visual branding (anthracite grey RAL 7016 or custom façade trim) is required out of the box. 4. Lead Time & Packaging Protection at Gebze Plant

Galvanized bundles dispatch in 3–5 business days; painted bundles dispatch in 5–7 business days with protective interleaving and steel strapping for crane loading. (Request a Quote · Dealership & Distributorship).

Frequently Asked Technical & Export Questions

Does a galvanized container frame rust at the joints over time?

No. Traditional welded container frames rust at corners because welding burns off the zinc layer. SerContainer frame kits use 100% weld-free Grade 8.8 M12 bolted connections, keeping the factory zinc coating intact across every joint.

Can we paint a galvanized FR-G or GR-G frame locally in our own corporate RAL color?

Yes. After wiping profiles with a light degreasing solvent and applying an etch/wash primer for galvanized steel, local workshops can spray any polyurethane or acrylic RAL color onto the outer fascia beams.

Why does FR-P-W3000-L7000 require 20 sets MOQ while FR-G-W3000-L7000 requires only 10 sets?

3×7 m Galvanized runs continuously on our main coil line (allowing 10-set dispatches), whereas painted series require dedicated paint-booth batching, RAL color setup, curing, and protective stretch wrapping (minimum 20 sets per model).

Which coating is better for 40' HC sea container shipments to Africa or the Gulf?

Galvanized (FR-G / GR-G) is strongly recommended for maritime freight because ocean humidity and condensation inside closed sea containers will not cause corrosion on galvanized steel bundles.

Is there any difference in steel thickness or load rating between FR-G and FR-P?

None. Both use identical structural cold-formed steel thicknesses, identical column profiles, Ø35 mm crane lifting lugs, and carry the exact same net steel weight per size.
